Crabtree & Evelyn Sucks Customer Reviews and Feedback
Crabtree & Evelyn is a current online-only and former brick-and-mortar retailer of body, fragrance and home care products. Beginning with one store in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1971, the brand grew to an international presence, with hundreds of locations globally.
Longtime customer Jeannette K. wrote the following in a review on Crabtree and Evelyn:
Crabtree and Evelyn ships out of Connecticut. I live in New Hampshire. I ordered on a Tuesday and the order was shipped on a Friday - before a long holiday weekend. The temperatures were sub-zero. The order arrived on a Tuesday as a big, frozen mess. The bath gels I ordered were already leaking all over the box and proceeded to split and leak all over the sink I put them in to contain the mess. I contacted customer service who replied with a lot of nonsense about how they tested the product safety when heated or frozen. Not an answer about the big, leaking mess or why they would ship in sub-zero temps when they knew the stuff would be sitting around in a warehouse for 3 days. So they aren't taking any responsibility for this mess. As a long time customer I will not be ordering from them again.
Former Employee - Marketing says"I worked at Crabtree & Evelyn full-time for less than a year Cons: Backstabbing, childish, non educated, no creative vision, manipulative, scary, violent, hostile work environment fostered by one or two people who are in executive roles. Roles that they were not qualified to fill."
Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says"I worked at Crabtree & Evelyn full-time for more than a year Cons: no training, people getting fired left and right, fighting, terrible products, numbers in the red"
Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says"I worked at Crabtree & Evelyn full-time for more than a year Cons: The Global CEO, David Stern, had his favorite few, who he protected no matter what, while bad-mouthing past and belittling current employees openly. He pretended to be compassionate, but I don't think he knows what it means. He asked for input, and then held grudges and instilled fear in those who voiced a different opinion. The CEO of Harvey was equally brutal; yelling, cursing, demeaning to others on a daily basis. It was very sad to see a once cutting-edge brand with a 'heart' be torn down and thrown away like smelly trash. People were treated in the same way."
Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says"I worked at Crabtree & Evelyn full-time for more than a year Cons: Everything else. Sr. Management has no idea on how to run a company and they are running it into the ground"
Former Employee - Store Manager says"I worked at Crabtree & Evelyn full-time for more than 3 years Cons: Upper Management was disorganized and lacked communication skills. The environment was always negative and you never got praised for doing a good job, always felt like we were being lied too or kept in the dark with certain matters. The pay wasn’t good at all. Was always told you could move up in the company and boy was that a joke.."
Former Employee - Distribution says"I worked at Crabtree & Evelyn full-time for more than 5 years Cons: Company closing. No jobs in this area. CEO needs to go, he and his favorite few have done nothing for this company. No new product introduction in over 3 years, run the company into bankruptcy. Now leaving hundreds of people unemployed. Woodstock is part of this company heritage. Moving it because you think that will turn the company around is stupid and desperate."
Current Employee - Upper Management says"I have been working at Crabtree & Evelyn full-time for more than a year Cons: Company is closing all stores in 2019. Due to mismanagement."
Sales says"I worked at Crabtree & Evelyn for less than a year Cons: Low pay rate No full time No benefits Very slow at times Unorganized manager Very high turn over rate people quit as fast as they come 85 dollar maximum for making plan"
Former Employee - Manufacturing says"I worked at Crabtree & Evelyn full-time for more than 5 years Cons: Senior management: lack of understanding the market, don't listen to employees or customers, lying to owners, employees."
Current Employee - Current Employee says"I have been working at Crabtree & Evelyn full-time for more than a year Cons: Where can I start....it's very bad. Management speaks a lot about transformation, creativity and embracing new company values but it's all an act. The actual daily life for the staff is miserable by management design. And If you speak up your mind you will have a target on your back. - Management is made of a bunch of bullies and disrespectful folks at the Executive level - Financial challenges...which means job instability for all employees - Completely dysfunctional organization - The majority of the employees are either looking to jump ship or hoping for management change"
Supply Chain Manager (Former Employee) says"Poor management, no structure, ruled by fear and throwing money away. any decisions took forever and were usually wrong. data was often inaccurate and management built a brick wall around themselves. Cons: management"
Key Holder (Former Employee) says"● Work-life balance"
Product Development Manager (Current Employee) says"The lies started the moment I was contacted by the Talent Acquisition Manager and have never stopped. You will have no job security with this company. The CEO,CMO, Head of Regulatory Affairs and Supply Chain are evil and have ruined this company. These are the four individuals responsible for every failure the company has been faced with over the past 3 to 4 years. There is no culture at Crabtree unless fear and intimidation are considered building a culture. Bullying is very common, particularly with the CMO. I would stay away from this company. It is not worth the troubles you will endure. ."
Warehouse Worker (Former Employee) says"People were treated differently, and main people in the office didn’t want to hear about it. When you have a line leader dating the shift supervisor they can treat you bad and nothing will happen. Treated very unfairly. Also they don’t hire people. You will see people who been working there for 5 years as a temp and still are a temp. Cons: Nothing"
Manager (Former Employee) says"Word to the wise: Don't work for a company that has filed bankruptcy."
Retail store Manager (Windsor & Reading) says"to much restructure, no support system and to much pressure and expectation of managers. learnt a lot here but it got worse in the last few years. Cons: pay, management, workload, no direction no support"
Retail Inventory Manager (Former Employee) says"Spending 18 years at this company, I experienced many ups and downs. The current culture is one of great uncertainty as they are trying to 're-create' all aspects of the company. Cons: job security no longer exists"
Sales Supervisor (Former Employee) says"This place is god awful boring. The stores are so dead you literally go insane trying to find something to do. With the prices and type of clientele it's hard to reach goals and keep conversion where they want it to be. If you don't mind being alone all the time this place is for you but expect to bored, alone, and miserable. Cons: Boring, alone all the time"
Sales Professional (Former Employee) says"Management is judgmental and extremely unfair, harsh and at times, obviously prejudicial towards staff and customers. Cons: Too many to mention."
Sales assistant (Former Employee) says"At my time at the company positions were left vacant at every level, extreme mismanagement and miscommunication was rife. From top to bottom no one seemed to care."
Sales Floor Supervisor (Current Employee) says"Working on the sales floor and communicating with customers in a fast paced environment; Product Demonstration- “expanding the sale”; Product Knowledge Memorization; Register; Handling Money; Closing and Opening Accounts and Registers; Stock; Cleaning; Window and Shelve Display Cons: Management is very unorganized and there is no recognition for hard work or accomplishments"
Associate Sales Representative (Former Employee) says"They pat you down before your allowed to leave work. You aren’t even allowed to walk outside until your shift is over. I felt violated and untrusted couldn’t handle it for long"
Shift Supervisor (Former Employee) says"A typical day at work includes upselling to customers to ensure they spend above $70 and employees are made to feel bad by management when this didn't happen. Cons: Toxic Work Environments"
Retail Sales (Current Employee) says"The management at my location lacked guidance and I felt put down whenever I spoke up about something or if I had made a mistake. The management is very unprofessional and gossip a lot about the employees and other stores. It was fun at first to work here until I realized the lack of management and how there was always favoritism among managers. They were also hypocrital, allowing some things to get passed by or overlooked depending on who had done it. They also had no trust in the team members and I felt as though we were treated like children."
Selling supervisor (Former Employee) says"Management here will literally make fun of you to your face. Will not provide any raises (even though some people I know here have been here three years & the minimum wage went up). The company is so small that you can't complain to corporate because they all know each other. And there is no room for growth since it is such a small company. The best part of the job is the leniency in availability. Cons: No growth, management makes you feel small, low pay"
Other (Current Employee) says"Decisions made by upper management over the past few years make it unlikely the company will survive even 2 more years. Poor choices regarding product development, placement, marketing (or lack thereof), distribution channels & frivolous spending on a wide scale have created a downward spiral that I cannot see the company pulling out of. It's unfortunate as the products really are high quality & have had a loyal customer base for years."
Assembly Line Worker (Former Employee) says"I worked in awarehouse through a temp agency, I was a hard working single mother till I came home from work all day to a message not to return to wrk. Cons: You can be let go at anytime for no reason"
Part-time shop assistant (Former Employee) says"There is always a new task. Stock is always needing to be refreshed. customers are a store priority. the workplace is energetic. a lot of product knowledge is required."
Keyholder (Former Employee) says"I loved working at Crabtree and evelyn at first. The Manager and the current customers were wonderful. After a few weeks of closing the store I figured out that everyone was talking behind each other's backs. I learned quickly to keep my mouth closed about anything personal. I learned how to unload shipments and how to price and shelf things according to corporate's diagrams. I learned how to operate a cash register for the first time and how to close the registers at night. I learned all the financials paperwork that needed to be filled out each night. The hardest part of the job was balancing my morals when everyone was doing things on the job that weren't moral. The most enjoyable part was talking to amazing customers who really didn't know what they wanted and I could talk to them about all the products to help them. Cons: Management"
Other (Former Employee) says"Was a great brand with great people. Sadly was run by a senior management team who weren't capable of leading, decision making and doing what they say."
